National Chung Hsing University-International Core Lab for Staple Crop improvement Position:
Postdoctoral Researcher Employment term:
Starting from May 1, 2024 (start date is negotiable).
This position has a funding commitment for five years with a competitive Taiwan salary.
Project: Cassava Source-Sink Project, an international collaboration to increase cassava agricultural performance. For more information, please see https://cass-research.org/.
Responsibilities: We are using metabolic and genetic engineering strategies to develop novel cassava varieties with increased yield and starch production, especially for smallholder cassava farmers to improve their food security. The postdoctoral researcher will be leading a project involving large-scale field experiments for agronomic performance, field UAV phenotyping of cassava growth, photosynthesis measurements in the field, and laboratory analysis of cassava using molecular, biochemical, and genetic techniques.
Requirements: Candidates should have the following qualifications:
1. Ph.D. degree in plant biology
2. English writing and communication skills
3. Project management skills and experience
4. Training in plant phenotyping methods, photosynthesis measurements, and molecular biology, biochemistry and genetic laboratory techniques and analysis methods
5. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, statistical methods, and MS Office software
6. Experience with manuscript writing
Work location: Our laboratory is in the Biotechnology Center at National Chung Hsing University in Taichung, Taiwan (https://btc.nchu.edu.tw/en/intro.php).
National Chung Hsing University is the leading agricultural University in Taiwan and has excellent Experiment Station facilities for field experiments with cassava, rice, and other crops. Taichung is located about one hour south of Taipei by high-speed train and close to the mountains for recreational outdoor activities.
